Event Information
Join Dr Samantha Tipper for a public lecture that will take you on a journey back in time to around 1098 to hear about 海角社区's Hospital of the Holy Innocents, a leprosarium, built on the city's South Common.
The hospital was in use for around 500 years, but the history of the people who worked, lived and died at the hospital has mostly been forgotten, with few realising the importance of the site or the amount of individuals buried there.
Dr Tipper's talk will discuss the spread of leprosy during the medieval period, leprosariums in 海角社区, the history of the Hospital of the Holy Innocents, and new research on the site.
